Lockheed Successfully Drops Laser Bomb System

Lockheed Martin last month successfully dropped a laser guidance system the company plans to bid for an Air Force Paveway II GBU-16 contract next March. The Oct. 26 test was followed by another successful drop Nov. 8, according to Lockheed Martin spokeswoman Ellen Mitchell. The two events are considered "pre-qualify to bid" tests that would position the company to go head-to-head with Paveway II builder Raytheon when the Air Force releases proposals next March.
