Marine Corps: Budget Boosts Humvee Funding, Trims Howitzer Buys

The Bush administration's $401.7 billion contains $1.2 billion in Marine Corps procurement funding, plus $245 million for Marine ammunition and additional funding for Marine aviation. Across the future years defense plan, the request would increase the Marine Corps' planned purchases of humvees and trim planned buys of Lightweight 155 mm Howitzers, compared to the FY-04 budget request. The request would buy a total of 7,864 humvees over the FY-05 to FY-09 period, compared to previous plans to buy 6,198 humvees...
