McFarland: DOD’s Acquisition Programs Are Trending Toward Open Architecture

While acknowledging industry's concerns over intellectual property, the Pentagon's No. 2 acquisition official noted the Defense Department's acquisition programs are heavily trending toward instituting open architecture. Katrina McFarland, the assistant secretary of defense for acquisition, said Tuesday that 75 percent of all DOD acquisition strategies reviewed since 2012 feature open architecture.
