More than 170 members of the House of Representatives have signed a bipartisan letter sent to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta asking that he work with Congress to sustain Abrams tank production in the fiscal year 2013 budget. Army leaders have said the tank fleet is modernized enough, and no upgrades or new vehicles are needed until 2017, when an upgrade effort is slated to begin.
