Navy, Congress mull incremental funding authority for LHA-9, LPD-31

After sidelining amphibious vessels in the fiscal year 2020 budget request, the Navy's top acquisition official told Congress today the service could accelerate procuring two amphibious ships if granted incremental funding authority in the next defense policy bill. During a Senate Armed Services seapower subcommittee hearing, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) asked Navy acquisition executive Hondo Geurts if the authority would be "advantageous" in conjunction with the amphibious assault ship LHA-9 and the amphibious transport dock LPD-31.
