Defense Environment Alert -- The Defense Department has issued a long-awaited rule setting methods for prioritizing cleanup work at thousands of military ordnance sites. The Oct. 5 issuance of the rule shifts the protocol for cleanups, says one federal land manager source, helping to set priorities for determining which ordnance sites nationwide will be cleaned up first by basing decisions on risk, rather than on sites with the most political sway.
