Pentagon Confident United Defense Will Survive Crusader Cancellation

NEW YORK -- The Pentagon is confident that Crusader manufacturer United Defense Industries will be able to survive the field artillery program's cancellation, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Industrial Affairs Suzanne Patrick said yesterday. Earlier this week, Pentagon acquisition chief Pete Aldridge signed a memorandum formalizing the program's cessation. The May 13 memo officially banned the Army from spending any more money on Crusader development, initiating the program's termination process.
