Pentagon Establishes Task Force to Support Hurricane Rescue, Relief Effort

The Defense Department has appointed a three-star Army general to lead a new task force that will coordinate military support to civil authorities dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. U.S. Northern Command today established Joint Task Force Katrina to support rescue and relief missions being led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to command spokesman Mike Kucharek.
