Pentagon Seeks Permission to Train Foreign Internal Security Forces

The Defense Department is petitioning Congress for wider latitude to enhance the capacity of foreign nations to fight terrorism, seeking permission to train not only national militaries but also internal security forces. In a proposal sent to lawmakers April 13, the Pentagon is also asking lawmakers for approval to funnel as much as $750 million to the State Department to train foreign security forces assisting the United States in counterterrorism activities, a move that would more than triple the authority...
