Pentagon warns lawmakers that nuclear arsenal is 'nearing a crossroads'

Senior Pentagon officials told House lawmakers Wednesday that the U.S. nuclear arsenal is "nearing a crossroads" and will require expensive concurrent modernization of the all three legs of the triad and the infrastructure that enables it. The message, delivered to the House Armed Services Committee by Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Paul Selva and other top military officials, is not new -- the Defense Department has warned Congress of the looming costs of deferred nuclear modernization for years...
