Senate Begins Debate on Legislation to Implement Landmark U.S.-India Nuclear Deal (Updated)

The Senate today began its consideration of legislation that would alter longstanding U.S. nonproliferation policy so the United States and India can become trading partners in nuclear technology and materials. If eventually enacted, the bill would pave the way for implementing a landmark deal for such cooperation worked out earlier this year by President Bush and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
