Senate Passes MRAP Amendment, Bringing Funding to $28.2 Billion

The Senate last night passed an amendment to the fiscal year 2008 defense authorization bill that calls for boosting spending on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles to more than $28 billion. The amended authorization bill, which the full Senate has not yet approved, would provide enough money to allow the Pentagon to purchase up to 23,000 MRAPs for all of the services in FY-07 and FY-08.
