Unarmed Minuteman III suffers failure over Pacific during operational ICBM flight test

The U.S. military's nuclear strategic deterrence fleet suffered an operational flight test failure yesterday when an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile reported an anomaly in flight over the Pacific Ocean, prompting the Air Force to destroy the rocket, according to a senior Defense Department official.
