White House Names Service Secretaries

The White House today announced its intention to nominate three corporate executives to lead the military services. As expected, James Roche has been picked for the Air Force; Thomas White is the administration's choice for the Army; and Gordon England has been tapped for the senior Navy civilian job. All three have strong industry backgrounds, feeding Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's desire to strengthen civilian control over the services, according to many observers.
