Authorizers soften language on speeding, streamlining Huey replacement

Lawmakers dropped a provision from the fiscal year 2018 defense policy bill that would have allowed the defense secretary to let the Air Force issue a sole-source procurement contract instead of continuing an open competition to replace the Bell UH-1N helicopter. Instead, Congress said in the conference report accompanying the legislation, which passed the House and Senate last week, the Air Force should look at ways to speed the Huey replacement program and to ensure the schedule will not slip...
