In a new letter, the Coalition for Security and Competitiveness is pushing the Obama administration to tackle the remaining issues related to its export-control reform initiative.

The coalition counts among its members the Aerospace Industries Association, the National Defense Industrial Association and the Satellite Industry Association, among others.

In the March 25 letter, the coalition states in the short term, the administration should complete the "review and reconciliation" of the U.S. Munitions List and the Commerce Control List.

Additionally, the administration should institutionalize a process to review the lists on an ongoing basis, according to the letter. The group also seeks the completion of "harmonization of definitions" in the Export Administration Regulations and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

In the longer term, the administration should develop "expedited procedures for exports of defense and security technology that support U.S. government, military, and intelligence interests abroad." The letter also calls for increased cooperation between commercial innovators and DOD.
