Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has named Peter Levine and Lisa Disbrow to serve on the Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution Reform Commission, according to a Pentagon announcement.

Levine previously served as the Defense Department deputy chief management officer and acting under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, following 20 years as a staffer on the Senate Armed Services Committee. He is currently a senior fellow at the Institute for Defense Analyses.

Disbrow previously served as Air Force under secretary and prior to that as Air Force comptroller and as vice director of the Joint Staff (J-8). She currently serves as a director on the Board of Mercury Systems.

The 14-member commission, mandated by the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, is charged with reforming the Pentagon’s decades-old internal bureaucracy.

Several commissioners have already been named by senior lawmakers.

The commission will elect a chair and vice chair among its members and must submit a final report to lawmakers no later than Sept. 24, 2023, with reform recommendations. An initial report is due no later than Feb. 6, 2023.
