Commandant Nomination

Defense Secretary Ash Carter has recommended that President Obama nominate Lt. Gen. Robert Neller to become the next Marine Corps commandant.

Neller, who is currently serving as head of Marine Forces Command in Norfolk, VA, will succeed Gen. Joseph Dunford as the 47th commandant.

Dunford has been nominated to become the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Neller is an infantryman and his previous assignments include Marine Corps University president and 3rd Marine Division commander.
