Defense contractor Exelis said Friday that its sales in the most recent quarter fell to $1.1 billion, down roughly 6 percent from the same three-month period a year earlier.

Profit fell 34 percent to $52 million, a decline Exelis said was partly attributed to costs related to spinning off Vectrus, which was previously the contractor’s mission systems unit.

Exelis’s C4ISR electronics and systems business reported a slight increase in revenue, which the company said was a result of improved sales of airborne and shipboard electronic warfare products. But the unit saw sales of domestic radios decline.

The contractor’s information and technical services unit reported that quarterly revenue fell 12 percent and profit about 27 percent. Exelis attributed the decline to “lower customer activity in several U.S. government programs in Afghanistan.”
