A Naval Sea Systems Command team plans to brief the results of an analysis of alternatives for the surface force to Navy leadership "at the end of the year," according to a service official.

The future surface combatant AOA will determine the mix of small, large and unmanned vessels as well as various combat systems that N96, the Navy's surface warfare requirements office, invests in, according to Carey Filling, director for surface ship design and systems engineering at NAVSEA.

The results of that analysis will ultimately be incorporated into the Navy's broader force structure assessment, Filling told attendees at an American Society of Naval Engineering event yesterday.
