The Army has awarded General Dynamics Mission Systems a five-year, $3.9 billion hybrid contract to supply tactical hardware systems, management and support for more than 120 Army and Defense Department program offices.

DOD announced this week the award for Common Hardware Systems 5th Generation, or CHS-5, which follows the previous CHS-4 contract. The award covers three base years with two option years.

"Over a typical year, between 75,000 to 100,000 pieces of hardware are acquired off the contract from approximately 65 small and 40 large businesses," according to Paul Mehney, spokesman for the program office for command, control and communications-tactical.

The CHS-5 contract requires vendors to establish a public-private partnership with Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania to facilitate support and establish "a core logistics capability," Mehney said in an email Aug. 1.

The contract includes the ability for the Army to procure technical data packages, he added.

The Army released a request for proposals last August and received one bid, according to DOD.
