General Dynamics Land Systems has announced it recently passed a successful critical design review of its blueprint for the Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle replacement, and it is on a path to supply the Army with prototypes in 2026.

The XM30, previously referred to as the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle, is a system designed and tested virtually in the lead-up to the review; it is the first “born digital” program for the Army and is expected to undergo a milestone B decision by the end of June after the service pushed it back three months, Inside Defense previously reported.

“We have invested since day one of this program to deliver essential transformational capabilities to the Army,” said Keith Barclay, GDLS vice president and general manager of United States operations, in a June 4 statement. “We also continue to collaborate with best-in-class technology partners and are very excited to bring their innovative solutions to the competition.”

The vehicle is designed with digital engineering and modular open systems in mind, which will “allow our engineering teams to implement capabilities that provide the Army more efficiency and more flexibility for future enhancements,” Barclay said.

GDLS is competing with American Rheinmetall for the program; the Army will choose a winner in 2027, with low-rate production scheduled for FY-28 and full-rate production slated for FY-30.
