Ahead of planned talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Trump intends to nominate U.S. Pacific Command chief Adm. Harry Harris to serve as ambassador to South Korea, though he was initially nominated to be ambassador to Australia.

"During his 40-year career, [Harris] served in every geographic combatant command region, and he has held seven command assignments, including the U.S. Pacific Fleet, the U.S. Sixth Fleet, and VP-46," according to the White House.

Media outlets first reported the shift in Harris' nomination last month.
