Huntington Ingalls said today its sales during the most recent quarter reached nearly $1.9 billion, up close to 11 percent from the same three-month period a year earlier.

The shipbuilder's quarterly profit hit $149 million, up about 39 percent from the prior year.

The company's sales were buoyed by higher revenue at Newport News Shipbuilding, which saw increased sales in aircraft carriers, submarines and naval nuclear support services.

Huntington Ingalls said it also recorded higher sales and profit in its technical solutions business following its acquisition of Camber.
