Some must-reads from this week's issue of Inside the Air Force:

1. The Defense Department recently submitted an interim report to Congress on the organization and management of the military space enterprise, and while it doesn't include any evaluation of the proposal to create a separate Space Corps, it does reveal several ongoing efforts to improve space acquisition, budgeting and warfighting.

2. Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson told the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee Thursday the service could ask Congress to reprogram funding to keep the Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent program moving at a faster pace.

3. Although the Air Force's Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle procurement strategy may require more upfront funding than other alternatives for meeting the service's assured access to space requirement, the plan may have the best long-term payoff, according to a recent report.

4. The new Pentagon-based vice commander of Air Force Space Command said Tuesday that although the last-minute $600 million plus-up provided in the Fiscal Year 2018 Omnibus Appropriations Act to buy two more legacy Wideband Global Satellite Communications spacecraft was not something the service asked for, the Air Force may be able to apply some "innovative approaches" the way it buys the satellites.
