The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded Leonardo DRS a contract worth up to $841.3 million to produce updated mission command computing systems for the Army.

The Mounted Family of Computer Systems II hardware supports continued fielding and upgrading of the Army’s Joint Battle Command-Platform, the accompanying tracking software.

Leonardo DRS issued a release on the contract June 7, stating the new systems feature "significant performance enhancements of the platform computing server as the Army continues to improve the JBC-P systems used for tactical situational awareness."

The Defense Department first announced the award May 25.

The first-generation MFoCS is currently fielded on combat and tactical vehicles, including the Bradley, Abrams and humvee, as well as dismounted platforms.

The new family of systems includes dismountable tablets, processor units, docking stations, touch-screen display units and other equipment, according to Leonardo DRS.

DISA made the five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity agreement, with options for additional years, on behalf of the Army's program manager for mission command and the program executive office for command, control and communications-tactical. The initial ordering period is May 25 through May 24, 2023.

Leonardo DRS' proposal was the only one received, according to DOD. The minimum cost for the first task order is $5 million, using the Army's other procurement funds from fiscal year 2018.
