ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The acquisition strategy for the Navy's future amphibious San Antonio-class (LPD-17) Flight II ships will become clearer in the fiscal year 2020 budget request, according to a senior Navy official.

"In terms of that program specifically, yes, [Congress has] given us everything we need," Navy acquisition executive Hondo Geurts told reporters today on the sidelines of an expeditionary warfare conference.

Geurts said the program's "outyear" budget would be presented when the service submits its FY-20 budget.

In the FY-19 defense spending bill, Congress added $350 million for the LPD-17 Flight II, formerly called LX(R), for either advanced procurement or multiyear economic order of quantity funding in FY-20.

Currently, the only ship in the class with a set acquisition strategy is LPD-30.
