A tactical live-fire exercise featuring Patriot and Stinger missiles is underway at a NATO installation in Greece, according to a statement from the Army.

The exercise, referred to as Artemis Strike by U.S. participants, began Oct. 31 and runs through Nov. 9. It is German-led and involves more than 200 U.S. soldiers and approximately 370 German soldiers in Chania, Greece.

“Exercises such as Artemis Strike demonstrate how current and future Army forces must possess capabilities and be prepared to fight across multiple domains and through contested areas to deter potential adversaries, and should deterrence fail, rapidly defeat them,” according to the Army.

The exercise will also require the 10th Army Air and Defense Command to “deploy, operate and fire live missiles within a tactical scenario, under Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe operational readiness evaluation criteria,” according to the Army.

Meanwhile, the Army has been moving to increase short-range air defense capability in Europe.
