The National Defense Industrial Association said retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Arnold Punaro will become chair of its board, effectively immediately.

Punaro, who previously led the board from 2013 to 2015, will serve a two-year term. He succeeds Richard McConn. Michael Bayer, who leads the Defense Business Board, will become vice chair of NDIA's board.

Punaro spent 13 years as staff director of the Senate Armed Services Committee and 14 years as an executive at Science Applications International Corp. He is now chief executive of consulting firm the Punaro Group.
