No budget next week

The White House will not be submitting its federal budget request next week, according to a senior official from the Office of Management and Budget.

"OMB is working on a revised schedule and will provide additional information when it’s available," the official said.

The Defense Department had previously expected to submit its budget Feb. 4, but the federal government is temporarily emerging from the longest shutdown in history, which delayed the budget approval process.

The new submission date has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Congress has passed a stopgap spending measure that expires Feb. 15 and is meeting to hammer out a bipartisan agreement on border security and immigration reform.

President Trump has said he will declare a national emergency if Congress cannot come to a bipartisan deal to fund a wall on the southern border.
