U.S. Strategic Command says it detected the simultaneous launch of two presumed North Korean No Dong intermediate range ballistic missiles yesterday, noting that the first exploded immediately, while the second landed in the Sea of Japan.

The launches occurred at 5:53 p.m. CDT near the western city of Hwangju, according to a statement from STRATCOM.

“The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) determined the missile launches from North Korea did not pose a threat to North America,” according to STRATCOM. “Initial indications reveal one of the missiles exploded immediately after launch, while the second was tracked over North Korea and into the Sea of Japan.”
