The Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman a nearly $43 million contract modification for its polar-orbiting satellites, according to a recent Defense Department notice.

The modification in the Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared Polar space vehicles 1 and 2 will increase Phase One risk-reduction efforts and material being acquired under the basic contract, DOD said in the Friday notice.

Work is expected to be completed by July 2026 and the total cumulative face value of the contract with modification is valued at $1.98 billion, DOD said.

Recently, the company announced its Eagle-3 spacecraft -- Northrop Grumman’s solution for the U.S. military’s NGP requirement -- had completed a preliminary design review and is planning for the next milestone: critical design review.
