President Obama will travel to the Pentagon today to chair a National Security Council meeting on the military campaign to counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Obama “will receive an update from his national security team on the efforts to degrade and destroy the terrorist group,” according to a Defense Department announcement. “Afterward, the President will hold a press conference.”

The president's arrival at the Pentagon follows a new round of airstrikes against ISIL targets in Libya that began on Monday.

“These air strikes bring the total number of air strikes in support of Operation Odyssey Lightning from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3 to nine,” according to a DOD statement. “These actions, and those we have taken previously, will help deny Daesh a safe haven in Libya from which it could attack the United States and our allies.”
