The Army has awarded Oshkosh Defense a $57 million contract to produce 116 Enhanced Heavy Equipment Transporter System trailers, the company announced Tuesday.

The EHETS trailer is part of the transport system for heavy tracked vehicles on European roadways and is designed to be pulled by the Heavy Equipment Transport, also made by Oshkosh.

Oshkosh will execute the order with Broshuis B.V. -- a Dutch subcontractor.

Last September, the Army awarded Oshkosh a five-year, $260 million contract for the EHETS trailer, which is capable of hauling M1 Abrams tanks, Inside Defense reported. The contract covers about 466 trailers and runs through 2027.

The 31 Abrams tanks committed to Ukraine by the United States are scheduled to arrive there some time in the fall. Ukrainian forces are undergoing U.S.-led training in Germany and are set to complete the training by the end of the summer, CBS News reported last month.

Pat Williams, chief programs officer at Oshkosh Defense, said in a statement Tuesday that “the ongoing conflict in Ukraine demonstrates the critical need for having rigorous logistics systems capable of delivering equipment and cargo across any terrain worldwide.”
