Oshkosh said today that sales and profit in its defense group dropped significantly, primarily because of reduced work with the Pentagon.

In particular, the company said, last year it was buoyed by producing Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicles and Joint Light Tactical Vehicle test versions. This quarter, revenue declined nearly 44 percent to $288.1 million, a decrease the company said "was expected."

Oshkosh reported a loss of $2 million for the quarter, a significant drop from its $11.2 million in profit during the same period a year earlier.

Earlier this month, the company announced it would trim its defense workforce in Wisconsin by 250 to 300 hourly positions in December. Another 70 salaried positions are also set to be eliminated, Oshkosh said.
