The Pentagon has amended the charter for the new Defense Innovation Board to include more members and non-voting advisers.

The board, formerly known as the Defense Innovation Advisory Board, will now be capped at 20 members instead of 15 and will add three non-voting, ex-officio members, according to a July 29 Federal Register notice.

The three non-voting members will include the leaders of the Defense Business Board, the Defense Policy Board and the Defense Science Board.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter recently added a host of new members to the board, including Jeff Bezos, the CEO and chairman of Amazon.

The board, chaired by chaired by Alphabet Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, has been tasked by Carter to identify innovative, private-sector practices and technological solutions the Defense Department can use in the future.

Carter has called for the board to send him a report in October detailing its findings and recommendations.
