The Washington Post published a story Monday detailing a "buried" January 2015 Defense Business Board report, but the existence of the report comes as no surprise to readers of Inside Defense, which covered it the day it was released.

"The Pentagon could save more than $125 billion over the next five years by instituting early retirements and reducing core business process services performed by outside contractors, the Defense Business Board found in a new study," according to the Jan. 22, 2015, story that ran on Inside Defense.

"Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work tasked the Defense Business Board with the study in October 2014, noting in his terms of reference that the Pentagon 'lags behind' the commercial sector when it comes to achieving 'significant cost savings through the implementation of process redesigns and agile reference architectures,'" the story continues.

While the Post story mentions the report was later removed from a Pentagon website, subscribers to Inside Defense can still find it here.

Meanwhile, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), soon to be the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released a statement Tuesday vowing to investigate the matter after reading the Post's "exposé."

"I vow to get to the bottom of this," she said.

She has also contacted the Pentagon to demand a "full copy of the buried study along with the background data."

Again, subscribers to Inside Defense have been able to find the report here since Jan. 22, 2015.
