Repealing Obama's DOD rules

House Republicans aren't too keen about letting women be eligible to participate in all combat positions.

The House Freedom Caucus this week issued a "special report" detailing rules and regulations promulgated by the Obama administration that congressional Republicans want to roll back. The report was originally obtained by Politico.

Among those related to the Defense Department: Republicans want to overturn a Dec. 3, 2015, rule that opened "all combat positions to women."

Republicans also want to "refuse to mandate more expensive Defense Department energy alternatives" required by a 2011 law on energy performance goals, according to the report:

Oil products may be expensive, but they are the least expensive option currently available. Forcing the military to purchase more expensive alternatives would leave fewer resources for training, modernization, and recapitalization, resulting in a less capable military.

Also on the chopping block is the "DOD Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP)," which, "using third-party Accreditation Bodies (ABs) . . . provides a unified DOD program through which laboratories can demonstrate competency and document conformance to the DOD Quality Systems Manual for Environmental Laboratories (DOD QSM)," the program's website states.

The Freedom Caucus believes that "We should be spending money for defense where it's needed, not on environmental projects."
