Senate authorizers complete FY-18 defense policy bill mark-up

The Senate Armed Services Committee has completed marking up its version of the fiscal year 2018 defense authorization bill, with a proposed $632 billion base budget.

According to a statement issued by the committee, together with the administration's $8 billion request for other defense activities, the bill supports a total defense budget of $640 billion in funding for the Defense Department and the Energy Department's national security programs. The legislation also authorizes $60 billion for Overseas Contingency Operations.
