The Senate voted 89-1 today to confirm Army Gen. Mark Milley to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The lone "no" vote came from Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR).
Milley previously served as Army chief of staff.
Milley is poised to succeed Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford, the current chairman whose term officially ends in October.
The Senate has already confirmed Gen. James McConville as the next Army chief of staff.
