The Aircraft Carrier Industrial Base Coalition this week sent separate letters to House and Senate lawmakers urging their support for carrier funding at the level authorized by the House Armed Services Committee's mark of the fiscal year 2015 defense authorization bill.

According to the coalition:

To meet the operational need for 11 carriers, the aircraft carrier supply base invests money in infrastructure, labor and training to support the U.S. Navy's planned regular schedule of carrier maintenance and planned construction. These companies have based their business plans and economic forecasts on meeting the U.S. Navy's shipbuilding schedule. Any disruption to this schedule would have a significant impact on big and small businesses across the country and put the unique skilled jobs of thousands of workers at risk. It would also increase prices for the material and components necessary to construct and refuel these ships.
