President-elect Donald Trump met today with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) in New York and praised the senator's work as Alabama's state attorney general. Sessions has been mentioned as a potential pick for Trump's cabinet, most frequently as a possible defense secretary.

“While nothing has been finalized and he is still talking with others as he forms his cabinet, the President-elect has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama's Attorney General and U.S. Attorney,” according to a statement from the Trump transition team. “It is no wonder the people of Alabama re-elected him without opposition.”

Trump also met Wednesday with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to discuss China, Russia, Iran, the [European Union] and “other events and issues around the world,” according to the transition team.

Meanwhile, Vice President-elect Mike Pence today addressed a meeting of the House Republican Conference in Washington, where he discussed the Trump administration's priorities for its first 100 days.

“Vice President-elect Pence shared an update on the Presidential Transition, which he is chairing, stating that substantial progress is being made with decisions on key appointments,” according to the transition team. “He also solicited feedback and suggestions from Conference members on additional appointments and communicated a desire to receive additional input in the weeks ahead.”

Key areas Pence discussed included Trump's desire to “pursue a legislative strategy focused on tax reform and tax relief, in addition to repealing and replacing Obamacare, securing our border, rebuilding our infrastructure, and other priority items to create jobs and increase security.”

Pence also reaffirmed the Trump administration's commitment to evaluate and repeal any of President Obama's executive orders deemed “unconstitutional.”
