President-elect Donald Trump has selected former defense executive and retired Army Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg to serve as chief of staff and executive secretary of the National Security Council, according to an announcement from the presidential transition team.

Kellogg, whose most recent position was at Cubic Defense Applications, served in the Army from 1967 to 2003. During that time, Kellogg was commander of the 82nd Airborne Division and, prior to retirement, served as director for command, control, communications and computers for U.S. forces under the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

From November 2003 to March 2004, Kellogg served as the chief operations officer for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq where he “oversaw the efforts to form the new Iraqi military after it was disbanded, as well as the reconstruction of the country’s infrastructure,” according to the transition team.

Kellogg has also previously worked as an executive at Oracle Corp and CACI International Inc.
