President Trump has selected John Rood as his nominee to be the next under secretary of defense for policy, according to a White House announcement.

Rood most recently served as the senior vice president for Lockheed Martin International, "where his responsibilities included developing and executing strategies to grow Lockheed Martin’s international business, managing marketing and government relations activities, and overseeing offset and industrial cooperation activities," according to the White House.

Rood, who has also worked as an executive at Raytheon, served for more than 20 years in federal government jobs, including acting under secretary of state for arms control and international security, the announcement states.

He also served on the National Security Council and as deputy assistant secretary of defense for forces policy.

A former staffer for retired Sen. John Kyl (R-AZ), Rood has also worked as a CIA analyst.
