The week ahead

This week, the last full one before Thanksgiving, features a busy slate of events, both on Capitol Hill and at conferences.

Monday

The Center for Strategic and International Studies hosts its Global Security Forum, featuring remarks by Henry Kissinger, Bill Lynn, Michael Vickers and others.

Tuesday

At 9:30 a.m., the Senate Armed Services Committee holds a hearing on Pentagon reform and overcoming obstacles to effective management. David Walker, the former U.S. comptroller general; retired Maj. Gen. Arnold Punaro, a member of the Defense Business Board; Richard Spencer, a former DBB member; and Lisa Bisaccia, chief human resources officer at CVS Health, are scheduled to testify.

Wednesday

The Professional Services Council kicks off its two-day Vision Conference, which includes remarks from Pentagon comptroller Mike McCord and David Mader, controller at the Office of Management and Budget.

The Atlantic Council will host a panel on the business of space, featuring top executives from Lockheed Martin, Artel, XCOR and Intelsat General.

Thursday

The House Armed Services Committee holds several hearings on Nov. 19. At 8 a.m., the readiness subcommittee will hold a hearing on the effects of reduced infrastructure and base operating support investments on readiness, featuring Lt. Gen. David Halverson, the Army's assistant chief of staff for installation management, and Maj. Gen. Charles Hudson, the commander of Marine Corps Installations Command.

At 9 a.m., the seapower and projection forces subcommittee will convene to discuss acquisition efficiency and the future Navy force, and at 10:30 a.m, the emerging threats and capabilities subcommittee will hold a hearing on advancing the science and acceptance of autonomy for future defense systems. Set to testify are Greg Zacharias, the Air Force's chief scientist; Frank Kelley, the deputy assistant Navy secretary for unmanned systems; and Jonathan Bornstein, chief of the autonomous system division within the Army Research Lab's wheeled vehicle technical directorate.
