PEO Aircraft Carriers Working To Cut Man Hours, Cost In Future Ships

The Navy's aircraft carrier program office is looking to apply lessons learned from the over-budget Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) across the rest of the class, with the hopes of decreasing the needed construction man-hours by about 20 percent to stay within budget on future ships. Rear Adm. Thomas Moore, program executive officer for aircraft carriers, said the Ford was looking at about 53.3 million man hours for construction and 33 million for engineering, by far the highest amount of labor...
