DOD to up nuclear proliferation prevention funds above authorized amount

The Pentagon will increase funding above authorized amounts to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. In a Dec. 29 report to lawmakers, Tom Atkin, then the acting assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense and global security, said the Pentagon intends to increase proliferation prevention by $32.7 million above the amount authorized by the Fiscal Year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act for the cooperative threat reduction program.
