Army releases RFI for Stryker upgrades

The Army is looking for information on Stryker upgrades related to improving the system's lethality, according to a Federal Business Opportunities notice released March 6 and updated March 7.

The attached request for information focuses on a "medium-caliber, direct-fire, and turreted capability" and outlines the service's intent to examine industry's ability to either produce or modify a medium-caliber, turreted system and integrate it onto the Stryker chassis. The RFI applies to both the Stryker flat-bottom chassis and the double-V hull chassis.

"[Project Management Office Stryker Brigade Combat Team] is anticipating that the next major upgrade to the Stryker [family of vehicles] will focus on lethality improvements. The upgrades will also allow the Stryker FoV to sense threats earlier and destroy enemy targets at greater range," the document states.

Some requirements for proposed solutions include integrating "a government-furnished, dual-feed XM813 30 mm cannon," maintaining "the current number of crew and occupants in the Stryker variant," allowing "for rapid, under armor reload of primary and secondary armament" and providing "the ability to mount and fire an anti-tank guided missile such as Javelin or [tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missiles] from under armor."

The notice states that there will a 30 mm operational needs statement discussion with industry March 14 at the Association of the United States Army Global Force Symposium in Huntsville, AL.
