Trump nominates Boeing executive to serve as deputy defense secretary

The White House said Thursday President Trump will nominate Patrick Shanahan, a Boeing executive, to serve as deputy defense secretary. Additionally, the White House unveiled a slate of other top Pentagon officials, including David Trachtenberg to serve as principal deputy under secretary of defense for policy. Shanahan would take over from Bob Work, who has remained in the deputy defense secretary job under Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
