Pentagon abandons BRAC, seeks to trim $6B elsewhere

The Pentagon, which will no longer lobby Congress for another round of base realignments and closures, intends to find $6 billion in efficiencies in fiscal year 2019 by establishing a new management task force composed of senior officials and executing a variety of unnamed initiatives. The $6 billion in savings will be re-directed toward "readiness, modernization, and recapitalization," according to an overview book detailing DOD's budget request .
